Alternative to liquid Chlorine (Yurga)
In terms of chlorination efficiency and affectivity, the method of water disinfection has no match among the existent ones applied today. The need for decrease of chlorination by-product concentration is the principal reason for development of the new drink water disinfection technologies and means. The Russian scientists developed the efficient, effective and harmless for human and environment alternative to liquid chlorine – electrochemical plants “Aquachlor” to be applied for disinfection and treatment of drink water, as well as commercial waters and drains. Those plants are the first ones that efficiently combine positive qualities of known oxidants (chlorine, chlorine dioxide and ozone) along with any negative effect removed (i.e. no chlorination by-products are formed). With “Aquachlor” applied at the Russian Federation feed water-treating stations, it was stated out that there is the real possibility for reduction of permissible concentration of consumed drink water active chlorine compounds from the standard level of 0.3 mg/l to 0.1 mg/l along with improving of disinfection quality. Plants “Aquachlor” and the oxidizing agent solutions generated by them had being tested for the period of five years at the relevant organizations of Russian Federation, Germany, Mexico, Canada, South Korea and Vietnam. The testing results had proved the advantage of the Russian Federation developed facility over the similar specific systems (“Aquachlor” has no direct prototypes), as well as absolute advantage of the “Aquachlor” oxidant solution functional and consuming properties over all the existent means to be used for disinfection of drink water. As per the research conducted in Germany and USA, it was stated out that oxidant solutions could efficiently affect bacteria, microbacteria, viruses, fungi and microorganism spores. The fact that the rate of USA plant capacity is 12 times less than the Russian’s one proves exclusiveness of the Russian plants. Besides, the rate of the USA plants power output is exceeded by five times and salt consumption – by three times. At the same time, plants “Aquachlor” are sufficiently compact by their design and need for the place not exceeding the area required for keeping of liquid chlorine cylinders and containers at any water treatment plant. A single plant designed for treatment of maximum 500 cubic meters of drink water per hour needs for the area of maximum one and a half square meters and weighs in total about 80 kg. Besides, neither construction works, nor reconstruction of buildings or premises is required for mounting of plant “Aquachlor”. In addition to, the plant is featured with lack of any emission, without-delay-usability, long trouble-free operating life (up to 40 thousand service hours of continuous work) and potentialities for total automation of the technological process. Today, under the direction of management company “Kommunalschik”, the analysts consider the question with respect to the LLC “Yurga Vodtrans” pump-filtering station to be fit out with the above plants. With the equipment installed, the company will manage not only to improve quality of the drink water supplied to the municipal utilities, but also to solve the main problem with respect to utilization of liquid chlorine. The matter is that any water treating station needs for considerable amount of chlorine that, as it is known is heavier than air and in the event of leakage it is not evaporated, but spread out over the land surface in the form of dense toxic cloud. Principally, owing to the very chlorine property, all the enterprises that utilize chlorine for the purpose of water disinfection are ranked as high-risk facilities. Especially, the matter of liquid chlorine utilization takes on its great importance recently with the water treating station to be potential subject to acts of terrorism. To say about “Aquachlor”, it is the facility of no matters for any terrorist organization, as the plant generates chlorine in the amount to be specified for the current process of water treatment and can be switched off/on instantly. In total, ten plants “Aquachlor” is the amount to be sufficient for reequipment of the pump-filtering station operated by LLC “Yurga Vodtrans”. But owing to their rather high cost (one plant is valued at the sum of exceeding one million roubles) reequipment will be held in phases. First of all, thee similar plants should be purchased for the process of secondary chlorination in the nearest future.
